The interim government has decided to increase the rent of teachers and employees under MPO working in private educational institutions by 15 percent in two phases. Following this decision, the protesting teachers suspended their programs. They announced that they would return to classes from Wednesday. However, to make up for the time lost due to the protest, the teachers will hold classes every Saturday until the annual exams.
Earlier, MPO-listed teachers and employees working in private educational institutions went on strike on October 12 demanding a 20 percent reduction in house rent, 75 percent of the employees’ festival allowance, and a medical allowance of Tk 1,500.
